Reputed Mobster Wins $13M

A man identified by federal authorities as one of South Florida’s most infamous organized crime figures has won a $13 million verdict from a Miami federal jury in a civil racketeering case against his former business partners - one of them a Palm Beach socialite and former husband of Roxanne Pulitzer. Lawyers familiar with the case were stunned by the jury’’s decision and hopeful that U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks will set it aside or deliver a directed verdict for the defense. Ex-Teacher gets $850,000 in records suit

Andrew Greene garnered 34 percent of the vote and finished second in the 1992 Broward County School Board primary election to incumbent Miriam Oliphant. His strong showing forced a runoff. But the week before the runoff, the School District released records to the media showing Greene had sought counseling for psychological problems. After an avalanche of media reports, Greene lost to Oliphant. Greene blamed the loss on the School District for releasing the information about his past and sued. On Friday, a six-member jury agreed the district wrongfully released the records and awarded Greene $850,000 in damages. "I feel vindicated, " said an emotional Greene, dabbing at reddened eyes outside a Fort Lauderdale courtroom moments after the verdict. Read Article
Industrial Park Owners Awarded $11.4 Million

The owners of Lauderdale Lakes Industrial Park have been awarded nearly $11.4 million against Grubb & Ellis Co. for mismanaging their property, where problems included a controversial sting operation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. A Broward Circuit Court Jury deliberated more than 10 hours in two days before reaching a decision on Friday at the end of a 4 1/2 week trial. “They just saw these people were badly taken advantage of,” said Barry Roderman, the attorney who represented the property owners.
